BEWARE-Warning Signs of Cervical Cancer!

Cervical cancer is a cancer arising from the cervix. It is due to the abnormal growth of cells that have the ability to invade or spread to other parts of the body.

The American Cancer Society estimates that about 12,900 new cases of cervical cancer will be diagnosed and about 4,100 women will die from this disease in 2015. These estimations are shocking but true.

Cervical cancer symptoms

  • Vaginal bleeding: This includes bleeding between periods, after sexual intercourse or post-menopausal bleeding.
  • Pelvic pain: Pain during intercourse or at other times may be a sign of abnormal changes to the cervix, or less serious conditions.
  • Unusual vaginal discharge: A watery, pink or foul-smelling discharge is common.
(should be discussed with your doctor)

Signs of advanced stages of cervical cancer

Cervical cancer may spread (metastasize) within the pelvis, to the lymph nodes or elsewhere in the body. Signs of advanced cervical cancer include:

  • Weight loss
  • Fatigue
  • Back pain
  • Leg pain or swelling
  • Leakage of urine or feces from the vagina
  • Bone fractures

Being an adult woman, if you notice any unusual changes or symptoms affecting your reproductive organs, consult your doctor.

With knowledge of the risk factors and warning signs of cervical cancer, you can save yourself and others from a lifetime of suffering.
