Diabetes is an epidemic in America, due in part to the highly processed diets we consume and sedentary lifestyles we lead. If we can clean up our diet and exercise more, our chances of being diagnosed with diabetes greatly diminishes. These lifestyle changes have also been used to reverse the affects of the illness. If you were fortunate enough to do that, you can sell test strips online. Who buys test strips? There are organizations that advertise cash for test strips and make it easy for everyday people to sell diabetic test strips.
However, if you have yet to be diagnosed with diabetes and would like to know if you’re on the verge of obtaining the disease, then it’s important to be on the lookout for telltale signs. There are two types of diabetes – type 1 and type 2.
In some cases, you may witness early symptoms that are easy to spot during your regular doctor visits, such as elevated blood sugar levels. On the other hand, some symptoms are mild, making it difficult to link to diabetes. This is fairly common among people who have type 2 diabetes. In these scenarios, the patient doesn’t learn of their illness until it has already caused long-term damage.
With type 1 diabetes, patients witness symptoms much faster, sometimes within a few days or weeks. The symptoms are also more severe in nature. Both types of diabetes have similar symptoms, such as the following.
Hunger and Fatigue
Glucose is a form of sugar that’s found in your blood and is converted by your cells into energy. But in order for this process to work, proper insulin levels are needed to bring in the glucose. So if your body is lacking in insulin, or if your cells are resisting the insulin, then this process is interrupted, causing no energy to be created. This in turn makes you more tired than normal and you’ll feel hungrier.
Urinating More Frequently
The average person urinates between four and seven times daily. When you develop diabetes, this becomes more frequent. Typically, your body reabsorbs glucose once it has gone through your kidneys. But when you become diabetic, your blood sugar is raised, making it harder to reabsorb all the glucose. Instead, it will attempt to get rid of the extra sugar through urination. This requires more fluid, which can lead to your skin to become chapped. Since you’re urinating more frequently and in higher quantities, you will likely become thirstier.
Itchy Skin and Cottonmouth
Since your body is using up your fluids to create urine, it leaves behind less moisture in your body to be used in other areas. This leads to dehydration, which sometimes leads to symptoms like cottonmouth. When your skin becomes dry, it can also become itchy.
Blurry Vision
When your body has less fluid to work with, it can cause the lenses in your eyes to swell. This causes them to warp shape and causes focus issues. This is why a lot of diabetics eventually need to wear glasses.
Yeast Infections in Men and Women
Yeast infection isn’t a condition that only affects women. Men can also struggle with this problem, especially when they are diagnosed with diabetes. This happens because yeast likes to feed on sugar, so when your body increases its glucose levels, this makes your more susceptible to yeast infections, especially in areas of your body that is warm and moist, such as in the fold of skin. Areas known to develop yeast infections include between your toes and fingers, beneath your breasts and in or around sexual organs.
Cuts and Slow-Healing Sores
The time it takes to heal a wound is a telltale sign of how healthy your immune system is. So if your sores and cuts aren’t healing as quickly as they once did, then it could be a sign that your blood sugar levels are abnormal. When you have unusually high levels of glucose, it can affect your blood flow and even lead to nerve damage. This makes it harder for your body to heal cuts.
There’s Pain in Your Extremities
It’s common for diabetics to feel tingles, numbness and pain in their feet and legs. This is caused by nerve damage from high glucose levels.
